HOW WE GOT OUR NAME
Jewel Roper Hairgrove entered the educational profession in 1966 in Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District. Her first position was that of a social studies teacher at Dean Junior High School. Jewel made her presence known early by becoming a highly visable and innovative teacher winning the respect and admiration of both students and fellow faculty members. Jewel soon moved into a counseling role and later served as the Dean of Students at Jersey Village High School. Finally, she accepted the role of director of Guidance and Counseling serving in this capacity until her retirement in 1987.

Throughout her career Jewel received marry notable awards including Texas Outstanding Counselor award in 1986, Texas Outstanding Supervisor award in 1987, and Emeritus status in the Texas Association of Counseling and Development. In all her endeavors, Jewel was been supported by her husband Marvin Hairgrove and by her son and daughter and their families. She last resided in the USAA Towers retirement Community in San Antonio where she continued to spread the same parables of love, hope, and good cheer that gained her such love and respect in Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. Mrs. Hairgrove passed away on April 24, 2003.
The staff and students of Hairgrove Elementary loved her. Hairgrove Elementary School opened in 1991.
